Embracing the Sunshine: Fort Lauderdale’s Weather & Climate

If there’s one thing everyone asks me when they’re thinking about moving to Fort Lauderdale, it’s this: “What’s the weather like all year round?” And I always smile because, truthfully, Fort Lauderdale’s climate is one of the biggest perks of living here.

As someone who’s lived, worked, and helped families relocate here for years, I can tell you: the weather shapes everything—from how we design our homes to how we spend our weekends. So let’s dive into what makes the Fort Lauderdale forecast a dream come true.

 Overview of the Year-Round Climate

Fort Lauderdale enjoys a tropical rainforest climate, which means plenty of sun, warm temps, and a refreshing ocean breeze nearly every day.

Winter (Dec–Feb): Highs in the mid-70s°F, low humidity, and virtually no snow—just sunshine.

Spring (Mar–May): High 70s to 80s°F with beautiful, breezy evenings—perfect for al fresco dining.

Summer (Jun–Aug): Highs in the upper 80s to low 90s°F, with quick afternoon showers that cool things down.

Fall (Sep–Nov): Warm and pleasant, with gradually dropping humidity.

We get over 3,000 hours of sunshine per year, which is why so many people feel healthier and more active here.

Yes, we do have a wet season (June–October) with higher chances of rain and tropical storms, but our local infrastructure, community alerts, and home design are all built to handle it safely.

🌴 What the Weather Means for Your Lifestyle

The climate here isn't just nice—it’s a way of life.

Year-round beach days mean your weekends can feel like a mini-vacation.

Love to dine outside? Many restaurants have covered patios, oceanfront terraces, and rooftop lounges.

Boating, tennis, yoga in the park, and walking trails are popular even in winter.

Events like Sunset Concerts, ArtWalks, and outdoor markets thrive here thanks to the consistent weather.

If you’re coming from a place with snow or a long rainy season, you’ll notice an immediate boost in mood, energy, and wellness just from soaking in more sunshine.

🏡 How the Climate Shapes Real Estate

Here’s something I always tell buyers: Fort Lauderdale homes are built for the outdoors. That means:

Spacious lanais, private pools, and breezy screened patios

Landscaping with tropical plants, palms, and flowering hedges

Many neighborhoods are canal-front or beach-adjacent, taking advantage of cooling ocean air

Because we get such beautiful weather, your living space extends far beyond your walls.

Outdoor kitchens, firepits, and even garden yoga spaces are common here!

☀️ Best Seasons to Visit or Move

Thinking of visiting before you move? Here’s what to expect:

Winter: Our busiest tourist season. Perfect for exploring neighborhoods and soaking in sun while much of the country is cold.

Spring: Ideal home shopping weather. Less crowded than winter, but still sunny and lively.

Summer: Hot and humid but quieter—great for buyers looking for less competition and potential deals.

Fall: Lovely transition season and a sweet spot before the holiday rush.

No matter when you come, there’s a charm to every season here.

☀️ Melissa’s Personal Tips for Embracing the Climate

As a local, here’s my advice for soaking it all in:

Early morning beach walks at Sunrise Boulevard are unbeatable.

Don’t underestimate a high-quality sun hat, SPF, and a good umbrella.

Plantation Preserve Park is stunning in spring, and

Hugh Taylor Birch State Park is peaceful all year.

Keep a pair of flip-flops in your car—you never know when a beach sunset calls.
